The Empire of the Rising Sun, also known as the Japanese Empire, or Japan, is a previously existing faction being expanded upon for Red Alert 3 Paradox. The original faction was designed and created by Electronic Arts.
[edit] Development
The new Empire of the Rising Sun game elements will be released in the third package along with the complete Atomic Kingdom of China faction. Rumours have surfaced, though, that it may be released earlier along with the Soviet Union faction to reduce production time between the first and second packages.
The faction, including the new elements from Red Alert 3 Paradox, will have a total of 12 buildings, 6 defensive structures and 41 units (not counting the several Nanocores).
[edit] New Units
[edit] Buildings
| Instant Garage | A structure devoted to the construction of vehicle units.
| Infantry Base | This useful little structure heals infantry in a radius around it, and can generate motorbikes that will speed a small detachment of infantry to the front!
| Incredible Mobile Fortress Tatsu | The last design created by, and named in honour of, the late Prince Tatsu, the Incredible Mobile Fortress is massive mobile behemoth that dwarfs anything ever seen before. Capable of constructing and carrying a wing of 6 aircraft, and moving slowly on land and water, the Incredible Mobile Fortress repairs and rearms nearby units, can transport a large number of vehicles, and is armed with multiple point-defence machine guns and rockets, for anti-infantry and anti-air defence. It is very, very well armoured, but extremely expensive.
[edit] Defenses
| Tankbuster Turret | Armed with an upscaled plasma electrolaser like those used by the Tankbusters, Tankbuster Turrets can disguise themselves as wall hubs. When not firing on an enemy or disguised, they retreat into their base, making them very hard to destroy from the air.
| Disassembler Tower | This weapon takes apart enemy vehicles using a beam of nanites, and then uses the parts it takes to boost the effectiveness of nearby units. It is rather fragile, but can fire over walls.
| Noise Detector | Without modern radar systems, Japan is forced to depend upon archaric noise detectors like this one. Computer calculation and monitoring systems allow long range early warning of approaching aircraft. When an enemy is detected, specially modified burst drones are sent out, attaching to enemy aircraft before engaging stealth systems. They lower the defense of aircraft they attach to and monitor their movements.
[edit] Infantry
| Masamune Drone | A small, amphibious robot drone, the Masamune contains a sophisticated AI system that allows it to hack into and shut down enemy vehicles from a distance. It is armed with a light rocket launcher for anti-aircraft work, and is capable of skating over water.
| Holotree Sniper | This sniper unit uses a quick-assembling nanocore to unfold a sniper perch, which is then holographically disguised as a tree or another unassuming object. Though they have a shorter range then most snipers, they are very hard to root out once hidden.
| Zatochi | These warriors were part of the early Psionics research by the Empire, and the intensive psychic training left their eyes inert and lifeless. However, their reflexes and skills with their long blades are unmatched. Capable of slicing apart infantry and tanks alike with their blades, they stride into battle slowly and with confidence. Cowardly enemies who try to flee are pinned to the ground by this sword, which they can throw impressive distances if necessary.
[edit] Vehicles
| Auto Go | A small non-combat scout car, the Auto Go is the fastest land unit in the game. Amphibious, bullet resistant and armed with an omni-targeting missile array, the Auto Go isn't intended for combat; it carries a limited number of missiles that it can use to distract the enemy while it leaps away on its Jump Pistons and escapes. It is an effective early game anti-air platform, however.
| Tedate Projector | The Tedate Projector places down a temporary wall of energy that stops most ground-based attacks. This wall lasts about thirty seconds, and then shuts down. While the wall is active, the vehicle cannot move. When not using the shield projector, the Tedate can lock down an enemy or friendly unit, making the incapable of firing or moving, though also making them invincible.
| Tanuki Vector Assault | Armed with a repeating machine-gun, the fast-moving Vector Assault tank is effective over water and land, using its Burst Cannon to great effect against groups of infantry or helicopters. It can release small tracker drones that will intercept enemy vehicles and slow them down with an EMP pulse to allow the Tanuki to escape.
| Onamuji Buster Tank | Capable of folding under its turret and burying itself into the ground as a turret, the Onamuji is a good counterpart to the Tsunami as it is much better against tanks, but suffers against infantry and structures.
| Isha Vector Jet Tank | These vehicles are something like an anti-tank interceptor, blindingly fast over all terrain and possessing an anti-tank autocannon that fires extremely fast, a squadron of Isha tanks will tear any enemy armour force to pieces. Unfortunately, it carries only a limited amount of ammunition, and must return to base to rearm. Its special function, DoubleDrive, increases its fire rate and speed, but lowers its defenses.
| Izanagi Devastator Tank | There are two distinct camps of military though in the Empire; the pro-Mecha and anti-Mecha camps have been debating the issue as long as the concept of bipedal machines have existed. Attempting to end the debate once and for all, Kanegawa Industries used data from destroyed Apocalypse tanks to create the mighty Izanagi, which has the outward appearance of an upscaled Masamune drone. When walking on its six legs, it provides a stable firing platform for its Ultra Blaze Cannon, a weapon of devastating power. However, it can pick up its feet to reveal the wheels underneaths, allowing the machine bursts of speed and the ability to somehow glide over water, while using its rocket packs against aircraft and infantry. It is also equipped with forward chain-guns for anti-infantry and anti-helicopter use.
| Ikiryo Mini-Mecha | Standing little taller than an infantryman itself, the Ikiryo is fast but unarmed, and can carry a single passenger. By leaping onto an enemy vehicle it is capable of controlling its actions through hijacking the electrical system, though it can be shot off the vehicle fairly easily.
| Mecha Kitsune/Quad Kitsune | As part of the effort to integrate women into the woefully depleted ranks of the Imperial Army, the Kitsune was created as a mecha specifically for female units. In quad mode, the Kitsune is fast, agile and amphibious, but unarmed. In mecha mode, the distinctly feminine Kitsune uses a long-barreled sniper cannon to kill infantry and light vehicles with ease outside of their effective range, and over walls. It has almost no armour at all, so it has to use its speed to protect it; fortunately it can transform at any time.
| Hanzo Z | An effort to create a self-sufficient mecha force created the Hanzo Z, a tall, extremely humanoid mecha based on, of all things, the highly respected Allied Peacekeeper. Protected by a large shield and welding a burst machine-cannon, the Hanzo Z deals universal damage, making it an effective soft counter to all enemy ground forces and an excellent basis for your mecha forces. Its shield means it only takes a fraction of regular damage from the front. If things get dramatic, it can engage its jumpjets and hover like a Tengu, for which it must put away the shield but which gains it a great deal of mobility.
| Mecha Samehada/Sub Samehada | This awkward looking mecha walks on blade-like toes, which leaves it with an extremely slow land movement speed, which makes use of its Tankbuster electrospectrum cannon difficult. It comes to its own on water, though, skating across the waves on its stiletto feet extremely fast. Underwater, it becomes an effective submarine hunter, using its electrospectrum cannon to flash fry and disable enemy subs.
| Mecha Nezumi/Tank Nezumi | The Nezumi's heavy machine-gun turret offer it protection while it moves into position across land and water, before it deploys into the relatively slow Mecha form, which is armed with a large, indirect artillery piece taken from the Shogun battleship. Very powerful, but with a limited turning traverse, the Nezumi's size stands in direct contrast with its name; it can squish other vehicles under its tracks or feet.
| Kintaro | Called into service to defend the home islands against invasion, this hulking converted construction mecha wields a deadly axe and holds a surprise attack; they can launch their right hand as a deadly rocket to strike enemy vehicles, then reel them in on a chain to finish them off! Such is their bulk and robust nature that they can easily wade into the waters to fight the enemies of the Empire!
[edit] Dedicated Aircraft
| Raijin X Ground Striker | Armed with six Wave Force Pulsars, the Raijin smashes apart ground targets with ease, and is fairly well armoured as well as very fast. Its primary limitation is its extremely small ammunition reserve and its inability to deal with enemy interceptors. If it has not yet fired, the secondary function allows the plane to dump all its power reserves into a huge burst of Wave Force energy, which causes heavy damage to a single target.
| Fujin Variable Striker | A large and heavy fighter, the massive Macross Missile Arrays on its underbelly allow it to shatter the skies with huge blasts from hundreds of micro-missiles. Though slow, it can abandon its missile packs when they are spent and become a rapidly-moving needle fighter capable of outmaneuvering any opponent and striking them down with its burst cannons. The missile packs can be restored at its airpad.
| Masakari Drone Command | A massive plane, kept aloft by huge vector jets, the Masakari uses its reserves of nanites to fold a variety of drones; Tanto Drone Mecha are launched during an attack run against ground, where they use their electrolasers, while buildings are attacked by Kodachi Drone Bombers. A swarm of Nanofold Drones keep the Masakari safe by careening into any fighter stupid enough to stray near. Finally, the Masakari can fit three Hanzo Z, Kitsune or Ikiryo mechs in its body, where they can parachute out to attack enemies. The Masakari's main disadvantages are lack of armour, low maneuverability, and high cost, as well as a tendency to rapidly run out of drones in the midst of combat.
[edit] Seacraft
| Wave Tanto/Jet Tanto | A fragile transforming unit that is a combination of a flanking anti-ship speedboat and an air superiority jet. In its jet form, it fights enemy aircraft with bursts of rockets that take about 3-5 seconds to reload, and in performance is similar to the Tengu, but it does more damage and is more fragile. In speedboat form, it is an incredibly fast boat that fires the same bursts of rockets it uses in its other form against surface targets with the same reloading time. It must go through the reload phase after changing form.
| Wakizashi Sea Transport | Based on Allied hydrofoil designs, the Wakizashi glides gracefully over the water to transport dedicated land units to shore. It can carry a single mecha or vehicle, and is also useful for defending against airborne threats with its missile turrets.
| Tsurugi Submarine Fighter | Based on an interwar refit of the Seawing, the Tsurugi is armed with a large laser cannon mounted on its dorsal section and a forward mounted depth charge torpedo launcher. While underwater, it charges its laser capacitors while shooting apart submarines, then it leaps into the air and, after a short lock-on, empties its laser capacitors in a single, massive blast that can down almost anything. The Tsurugi is unfortunately very fragile in the air, and tends to explode violently due to the built-up energy.
| Aerial Battleship Musashi | A ship to rival the Shogun, the new Musashi isn't under Japanese Naval Command at all, despite its distinctly ship-like appearance. This is because hidden under the waterline are four massive vector jets capable of propelling the Musashi into the skies! The Musashi carries the heaviest armament of any Japanese unit, with electrolaser turrets, burst cannon point defense, and forward mounted torpedo/missile tubes, as well as an accompanying swarm of Stellar Angel fighters. Though the Musashi can only attack targets on the same level as it is (air while in the air, and surface on the surface) it conceals a hidden weapon; when confronted by enemy heavy air, it begins to charge its huge Wave Force Cannon, which will tear the offending craft from the skies in a single blow!
[edit] Existing Units
[edit] Buildings
| Construction Yard | The Construction Yard builds Nanocores, which in turn become new buildings.
| Instant Generator | The Instant Generator produces energey for Imperial bases.
| Instant Dojo | Here is where are infantry teached in the arts of war. The Dojo can upgrade itself to train higher infantry.
| Ore Refinery | This is the place where Ore Collectors bring their goods to, and this ore is then refined with Nanotechnology to produce a steady income.
| Mecha Bay | The Mecha Bay does what it says - produce Mecha. It can upgrade itself to construct new types of Mecha.
| Imperial Docks | The Imperial Docks are responsible for the naval fleet of the Empire. It can upgrade itself to allow construction of higher-class ships.
| Nanotech Mainframe | This expensive structure allows construction of several new technologies and unlocks the Breakthrough upgrade, allowing buildings to upgrade themselves further and thus produce the highest units of the Empire.
[edit] Defenses
| Fortress Wall | Those nanogenerated walls work like walls of other factions, but look better.
| Defender VX | This base defense can change its fire mode between anti-ground and anti-air.
| Wave-Force Tower | Those towers unleash annihilating beams onto enemy ground units and can fire directly, but will then have a weaker shot than with full capacity.
| Nanoswarm Hive | This structure creates a barrier of nanomachines and allows units to fire in and out, while blocking enemy units.
| Psionic Decimator | This complex device is the offensive superweapon of the Empire and unleashes a fatal wave of psionic energy which distortes the space itself and damages, if not outright eradicates enemies. A new development of it has resulted in killing vehicle pilots while not destroying the vehicles themselves.
[edit] Infantry
| Burst Drone | Those cute Dragonfly-like looking scouts can drag themselves onto other aircraft and explode.
| Imperial Warrior | The Empire's footsoldiers, they are equipped with kinetic carabiners and infantry-slaying beam katanas. The katanas also increase their speed shortly.
| Tankbuster | The Empire's anti-tank infantry, equipped with heavy Plasma-Cutters, they turn tanks into junk. They also can bury themselves in a hole, and are not attackable in this mode, nor can they be killed by being driven over. However, they cannot attack either.
| Engineer | They repair buildings, capture buildings and can occasionally run faster, but when reaching their limit, they have to catch their breath, being a perfect target in the meantime. Also, they are unarmed, but therefore amphibious.
| Shinobi | The Imperial Infiltrators, they are both fast and amphibious. They kill infantry with ninja weapons and can throw smoke bombs for escape from vehicles.
| Rocket Angel | Extremely hyper girls in jetpack suits with missiles and paralysing whips. Very fast and effective vs anything dwelling on the ground, but also not helpless vs air units either.
| Yuriko Omega | Psionic girl in a school uniform. Levitates and is thus amphibious. Strong vs anything in single combat, but weak vs massed enemies. The last war exhausted some of her powers, thus it should be noted that she can no longer attack air units. However, her special anti-infantry attack has increased drastically in strength.
[edit] Vehicles
| MCV | Imperial MCV. Deploys into the Construction Yard, and can then produce Nanocores to build new buildings. Amphibious, but slow and expensive.
| Ore Collector | Collects Ore to fund the imperial war machine. Is amphibious and can mount a machinegun to fend of enemy infantry. However, it drops eventual ore when doing so.
| Sudden Transport | Obidient transporter for infantry. Amphibious and can take the visual look of enemy vehicles, but unarmed.
| Tsunami Tank | Amphibious main battle tank. Can deactivate his main weapon in favor for a repair.
| Wave-Force Artillery | Massive, highly advanced artillery vehicle. Shoots an annihilating beam trough multiple targets with ease, but not suited for near-range combat, and rather fragile. Can fire the beam faster, but the damage will then be lower.
| Tengu | Transformer robot which can change between an amphibious anti-ground mode and an air superiority jet mode. Very fast in either way.
| Striker-VX/Chopper-VX | Transformer robot which can change between an anti-air ground mode and an air mode, firing missiles at the ground.
| King Oni | Massive Mecha with annihilating beams from his eyes and a rush function, which breaks enemy ground units with ease. Vurnerable to air attacks, and rather expensive.
[edit] Seacraft
| Yari Mini-Sub | Scout submarine armed with torpedos. Can ram enemy units, killing itself in the process but deals heavy damage.
| Naginata Cruiser | Large Cruiser Ship with torpedo banks for anti-ship duties. Quite stable, and can fire hidden torpedos in a fan form.
| Seawing/Skywing | Technologically impressive hybrid between an anti-air submarine and an anti-ground fighter jet. Quite fast in either way.
| Shogun Battleship | Massive borbardement battle ship for long range attacks. Vurnerable to air attacks. Can activate a shield to ram and sink enemy ships, dealing no damage to itself when doing so.
